How is Self-Discipline Interconnected with Other Character Traits?

The concept of self-discipline is not just a simple idea with a clear cut, black and white answer. Self-discipline is a practiced personality trait that is interconnected with many other characteristics. It is a choice. It is an understanding. It is a belief. It is a lifestyle. How is this so?

Having a genuine, deep rooted desire to be self-disciplined means that you are cognizant and aware of your surroundings and the cultural differences amongst you. You are self-less. You are kind. You are respectful. Being self-disciplined means that sometimes you must be self-sacrificing for the overall good and not just for your own personal gain.

Being self-disciplined requires integrity and honesty. There is no room for arrogance. Practicing this trait requires dedication and commitment to the morals and ethics that have been set forth by society. It takes a ton of patience and a considerable amount of humility to be successful in your execution of self-discipline, but the rewards are well worth it.

Self-discipline will open your eyes to your purpose in life. It will encourage you to be grateful for your blessings. It will challenge you to be brave, tolerant, and gentle. Not to mention, it will open the doors to a level of appreciation that you never knew existed.

Self-discipline is more than just abstaining from an action that has an instant poor consequence. Self-discipline is expanding your ability to look outside of your own lifestyle and consider how your own actions will impact those around you. It also requires the ability or at least the attempt to foresee how your behavior may affect others in the long term. This concept is not easy, but if you truly dedicate yourself to being self-disciplined your quality, purpose, and outlook on life will certainly benefit.

Developing self discipline to overcome virtually anything in life?

How can it be possible to improve your life by developing self discipline? I will tell you how, I will also provide you with practical examples of how this can be done.

First of all let me give you my definition of self discipline.

Self discipline is a mental strength to overcome a temptation and do what you should do even if you don't feel like doing, self discipline is an internal drive which makes a person, in the long run, successful, happy, more productive, knowledgeable, wealthier and capable to deal with whatever happens in life.

A disciplined person will do what is right even if he doesn't feel like doing it, at the same time he will overcome the temptation to do another activity which won't bring any good into the person's life. For example: today you have to do a certain task, maybe clean the house or do some homework, but instead you decide to watch television or play a video game or spend time on the net, in this case you're not very disciplined as you have decided to do something unproductive, you fell in temptation, instead of doing something more productive.

Every time you give in, to temptation, you loose self discipline, making it harder and harder for you to develop self discipline. If everyday you accomplish a task that you should do, without falling into temptation, you become more self disciplined but you also gain more confidence and strength to accomplish another task the next day.

Developing Self Discipline quoteIt's easier to accomplish an unpleasant activity or job in the morning as you have more strength to resist temptation, while later on during the day you may have less energies and so you will fall in temptation much easily.

If you accomplish the hard job in the morning you will feel better for the rest of the day, simply knowing that you have already accomplished that unpleasant task will make you feel good about yourself. By unpleasent I mean something productive like exercising or working on a project.

Now have a look at your life. Do you exercise? How do you spend your free time? How many hours a day do you spend sitting in front the television? I am sure there is something in your life you need to improve on, the sooner you start the better it is for you.

Do you want to lose weight? Do you want to become wealthier? Do you want to become happier? Do you want to learn something new? There are an infinity of things to do on this world but majority of people prefer to sit in front of the television or computer and waste hours like that.

By living in that way you don't develop any self discipline you simply repeat the same actions everyday, how can you expect to improve your life if you keep doing the same things? You are a slave of tasks which give you a brief and immediate little pleasure, these are things which won't bring you any good in life. You need to become more productive, you need to quit wasting time on all those unproductive tasks. The sooner you realise this the sooner you get a better life.

How can you expect to have a better life, to have more money, to have a better relationship to become healthier if you're a weak person which can't accomplish anything? A person which can talk and dream of a better life but can't accomplish anything?

Fall in love with hard work and you will have the life of your dreams if instead you dislike hard work your life will turn into a nightmare! By developing self discipline you will realise of how beneficial hard work is to you.

HOW TO IMPROVE YOUR ECONOMICAL SITUATION?

You may complain that you're not earning enough but I believe the issue is the opposite, you're spending too much! Try to save up, at least, 10% of all your earnings and you will see how much money you will soon have.

Developing Self Discipline quote2Even if you end up earning double your current salary do you actually believe that you will have more money at the end of the week? You will start spending more money on things which you can't afford, right now, and soon you will be in the same situation as before, asking for more money.

I have realised something a few years back, thanks to that today I already own 2 investment proprieties plus I am about get a third one very soon and I just turned 23.

What did I realise? Of course that developing self discipline is extremely beneficial but before that I have realised that I used to spend a lot of money on junk. I used to go on eBay and waste money on junk. Anything I would see I was like; "Oh! Look at this!" and then I would simply buy it, I remember coming up with a silly excuse to convince myself into buying it. I realised then that it was a process I kept repeating on and on, I used to see something, come up with a rubbish excuse why to buy it and then buy it.

What I mean by junk is anything that isn't very necessary to you. I used to buy expensive watches and heaps of other good quality goods but there weren't needed. I slowly realised that I had to stop buying that expensive junk, as all my money was disappearing in no time. I realised that I was simply doing it for an internal little pleasure, buying junk was making me feel good, it was a damaging habit that I had, and I had to get rid of it.

I had no discipline in my life, I couldn't follow through with anything, I would simply give in anytime I would see a little pleasurable thing. At a certain stage I couldn't stop watching pornography, I had no strength to avoid it and of course my relationship with my ex wife deteriorated because of my lack of self discipline.

Let's get back to our topic now!

I had get better with my financial life and so I started organising myself more and more on how to save up money. Instead of buying lunch for work I started organising myself and make my lunch the day before, instead of going out to restaurans I started cooking more, instead of going to the supermarket I started writing down a list of all the things I needed to get and I would stick to what the list said, instead of going into a supermarket and buy whatever looks appealing.

I then realised that I was simply developing self discipline! I started avoiding the easy way, the easy solution and that gave me many other benefits. Instead of buying lunch I would make myself something healthier to eat and at the same time I was saving up money, I then also realised that this effort of me making my own lunch, instead of going for the easy way of buying lunch, was making me more disciplined.

I would then cook more often, by cooking more often I started exercising more often, and then reading more often. It was like a chain effect. By improving in one area of my life I then had more desire to do more activities, activities which before I would simply talk about doing but never actually do.

If I think back of when I used to sit in front of the television playing games I remember not having any desire of cooking, of taking care of myself, of cleaning up my place or exercising I simply was sitting on my bum and wasting time playing games!

I learned that by following the easy option, by doing what I called pleasurable, you actually end up becoming lazy, less disciplined and so very unproductive. You also end up becoming a slave of those little pleasures like I had became a slave of pornography.

I also remember, when I was undisciplined, not being very satisfied with my life, not being happy or content and now it's totally the opposite. That's why I said that once you understand how beneficial developing self discipline is you will never go back.

The more time you spend developing self discipline the better you get, as I said before it doesn't happen over night, it takes time. Easy solutions in life don't really exist, you get back exactly what you have put in.

I will leave you a great quote by Einstein pointing out the fact that little things each day make a big different at the end, so start developing self discipline, put in a little each day and before you realise your life will drastically improve.

“Compound interest is the eighth wonder of the world. He who understands it, earns it ... he who doesn't ... pays it.”

Developing Will Power and Self Discipline.

Most people admire and respect strong individuals, who have won great success by manifesting will power and self discipline. They admire people, who with sheer will power, self discipline and ambition, have improved their life, learned new skills, overcame difficulties and hardships, reduced their weight, rose high in their chosen field or advanced on the spiritual path.
The truth is that everyone can reach high levels of will power and self-discipline through a practical method of training. These inner power are not reserved for a few special people.
Will power and self discipline are two of the most important and useful inner powers in everyone's life, and have always been considered as essential tools for success in all areas of life. They can be learned and developed like any other skill, yet, in spite of this, only few take any steps to develop and strengthen them in a systematic way.
What is will power?
It is the inner strength to make a decision, take action, and handle and execute any aim or task until it is accomplished, regardless of inner and outer resistance, discomfort or difficulties.
It bestows the ability to overcomes laziness, temptations and negative habits, and to carry out actions, even if they require effort, are unpleasant and tedious or are contrary to one's habits.
What is self discipline?
It is the rejection of instant gratification in favor of something better. It is the giving up of instant pleasure and satisfaction for a higher and better goal.
It manifests as the ability to stick to actions, thoughts and behavior, which lead to improvement and success. Self-discipline is self-control, and it manifests in spiritual, mental, emotional and physical discipline.
Developing Self Discipline quote3The purpose of self-discipline is not living a limiting or a restrictive lifestyle. It does not mean being narrow minded or living like a fakir. It is one of the pillars of success and power. It bestows the inner strength to focus all your energy on your goal, and persevere until it is accomplished.
Both of these abilities are required for daily actions and decisions, and also for making major decisions and attaining major success. They are required for doing a good job, for studying, building a business, losing weight, bodybuilding and physical exercises, maintaining good relationships, changing habits, self improvement, meditation, spiritual growth, keeping and carrying out promises and for almost everything else.
One of the most simple and effective methods to develop will power and self-discipline is by refusing to satisfy unimportant and unnecessary desires. Everyone is constantly confronted and tempted by an endless stream of desires and temptations, many of which are not really important or desirable. By learning to refuse to satisfy every one of them, you get stronger.
Refusing and rejecting useless, harmful or unnecessary desires and actions, and intentionally acting contrary to your habits, sharpen and strengthen your inner strength. By constant practice your inner power grows, just like exercising your muscles at a gym increases your physical strength. In both cases, when you need inner power or physical strength, they are available at your disposal.
Here are a few exercises:
- Don't read the newspaper for a day or two.
- Drink water when thirsty, in spite of your desire to have a soft drink.
- Walk up and down the stairs, instead of taking the lift.
- Get down from the bus one station before or after your destination, and walk the rest of the way.
- For one week, go to sleep one hour earlier than usual.
- If you like ice cream, don't have any, for a day or two.
These are only a few examples of the many exercises that can be conducted in order to develop will power and self-discipline. You might think that practicing these exercises is being tough on yourself, but they add much to the storehouse of your inner strength. By following a systematic method of training you can reach far, have more control over yourself and your life, attain your goals, improve your life, and gain satisfaction and peace of mind.
Show and prove to yourself that you are strong and in control, and practice the above exercises for a little while, before passing any judgement.

How is Self-Discipline Interconnected with Other Character Traits?

It is a proven fact that some individuals tend to be bigger risk takers than others. Some people do not seem to have the ability to predict consequences, and even when they do, it’s challenging to foresee the severity or intensity of negative implications.

Developing Self Discipline quote4

So how much of our ability to practice self-discipline and control is determined by our biological anatomy? Is self-discipline just as easy of a choice for some, as it is for all? Is lacking in self-control a physical inability, or more of a personal deficit that we can actively manage? Research scientists have been asking similar questions on a myriad of personality traits.

If we’ve accepted the various connotations concerning the deviation of right verses left brain when it comes to traits like artistic or mechanically inclined, is there are particular region in the brain that controls the ability to practice self-discipline?

Some research has suggested that will power and self-disciplined focus during a challenging task may be directly correlated to carbohydrate digestion and blood glucose levels. More complex studies that actually utilize the assistance of an MRI machine have isolated the ventral medial prefrontal cortex when patients were faced with a tempting decision. This same region of the brain is involved in the mental processes that study participants used when making a risky financial decision during a simulation similar to video gambling.

Developing Self Discipline quote5Conclusive evidence further supports that patients with a medical diagnosis of a behavioral disorder, such as attention deficit disorder or hyperactivity, may actually lack some of the imperative neuronal connections that are vital for predicting outcomes and understanding consequential results. These doctors have discovered an anatomical connection to these decision making processes. Is it possible for all of us to have a variable level of connectivity making it more or less feasible to develop self-discipline?

The dorsolateral prefrontal cortex may be the primary region that executes responsible decision making.

So what does that mean? It’s really hard to say.
Not enough scientific research has been conducted to pinpoint a particular pathway that is responsible for the blanket term of self-discipline. Even if medical researchers are able to locate an anatomical deficit that explains how and why some people have a harder time executing self-discipline, it doesn’t negate the physical ability for our brains to grow, develop, and acquire new abilities.

If we can perform physical therapy to regain the ability to walk, what is preventing our brains from gaining or further perfecting our ability to efficiently practice self-discipline?

Developing Self Discipline will simply change your entire life, believe it or not.

How is your sex life? Is Pornography dominating you and your life?

How is your sex life my friend? Does the internet comes in your head when I mentioned sex life? Did you know that Regular church attenders are 26% less likely to look at porn than non-attenders, but those self-identified as “fundamentalists” are 91% more likely to look at porn. What about this then.

Those who are happily married are 61% less likely to look at porn. See if you think that watching porn isn't a big deal than I am sorry but you're wrong. By viewing what goes on in those movies, or videos, you're worsening your relationship with your partner. You will except your partner to do certain things, to say certain things, to do what isn't right!
Developing Self Discipline quote9

Did you know that from the 50 top selling adult films, 88% of scenes contained acts of physical aggression? Well you're now turned on and expecting your partner to act like that, see how what majority of society does isn't good in the long run? I will give you one last thing and then I won't annoy you anymore, for today. Ex-porn star Tanya Burleson says men and women in pornography do drugs because “they can’t deal with the way they’re being treated” in the industry.

A 2012 survey of porn actresses demonstrated 79% of porn stars have used marijuana, 50% have used ecstasy, 44% have used cocaine, and 39% have used hallucinogens. I haven't come up with all these facts, those are really statics and fact.

I have a great report talking more about issues that are quite present in society but that don't seem to be a big issue, just like porn! Everybody thinks is harmless, its everything but harmless! I have even read that 56% of divorces are caused because of one partner being addicted to porn! Grab my free report containing much more info if you're interested about some more interesting facts.

How Developing Self-Discipline Pays Off in the Work Place?

In order to succeed in any job or career, self-discipline is an imperative trait to possess. Even if you have successfully climbed the corporate ladder and have few, if any, overseers of your performance, you will be more productive, more efficient, and more profitable by developing self-discipline and control over your actions.

Whether your actions have an immediate and direct effect on you, personally, or not, your job related choices have far reaching implications. From the fast food industry all the way up to a multi-million dollar financial corporation, if you are employed by someone else, your job duties have been established for a reason. Most likely, someone before you figured out what worked, and what didn’t, and every step of your requirements serve a valuable purpose.

When you do not practice self-discipline at work, you leave unfinished business for someone else to complete, finalize, or repair. Depending on your line of work, your choice to succumb to distracting temptations and avoid responsibility are not only a waste of your boss’s delegated funds, but someone else’s time must be employed to make up for your slack. In other words, multiple people are inconvenienced by your lack of self-discipline to efficiently perform.

When you practice self-discipline, your focus and attention are certainly noticed by your overseers. You are able to make better use of your time, provide higher quality work that contains fewer errors, and simply finalize more, in terms of volume. How exactly does this pay off?

Some companies offer performance incentives for exceptional productivity. Others simply consider your level of performance when it comes time for promotional raises.

But the true indication of whether you fully grasp the concept of self-discipline is when you choose to practice this trait without financial compensation or incentives.

Obviously, rewards are certainly motivating, however, the most genuine level of self-discipline comes from the desire to do what’s right, all the time, without being given a gold star or public recognition.

Have you became a slave? Do you lack self discipline? This may be helpful to you...

Hi my friend,

Today I will be talking a bit more about Developing Self Discipline and it's importance, I will be expressing my opinions and I will be also discussing more about life and how to understand if you have became a slave, if you have lost control of yourself.

Check out my FREE report, I have written it personally and it's a great and helpful report it also contains a very special offer. http://www.happyandbalancedlife.com

Developing Self Discipline quote6The reason why I do all of this is purely to help you, I have started to improve myself throughout discipline, by becoming more self-disciplined. I can confirm you that by monitoring myself, my thoughts, my actions and everything I do I have became somehow happier and improved, not only myself, but also the people around me and my whole situation.

I am confident that by following and understanding what I am writing you will discover how possible, and easy, it is to improve your life.

To improve yourself I believe that you can't focus on one aspect of your life and disregard all the other aspects, for example you can't just focus everyday on exercising and disregard the social, financial or mental aspect of your life. To have a great lifestyle and life you need to cover all the different parts of your life.

How exactly can you improve yourself? Remember that you're not only improving yourself but you're also improving who is around you.

Let's talk about pleasure, what do I mean by pleasure?

Don't get me wrong here, by pleasure I mean watching television, sitting in front of a screen playing video games, buying unnecessary stuff, over eating, abusing substances, smoking, or doing something else that won't bring you any good, I consider those actions little temporarely pleasures. The more of those pleasures you have the less control of yourself you have. Simple.

See financial issues, unhappiness and many other little problems, here and there, make your life a bit unpleasant. The biggest reason because you encounter so many little unpleasant things in your life is because you don't have much control of yourself, you let emotions and those little pleasures take over all of your actions and thoughts.

If you had the opportunity to choose between pleasure and pain, what would you choose? I am sure pleasure, at least majority of people would choose pleasure. People usually seek pleasure but work isn't pleasure, exercising isn't pleasure, studying isn't pleasure, self-discipline isn't pleasure, eating healthy isn't pleasure.

Think now for a second if you had the opportunity to live a life fulfilled with these little, temporary pleasures. What would you become? Or who would you become? Combine not exercising+eating junk= Unhealthy. You will end up overweight, with no energies, with no desire to do anything and so very unproductive. After years spent living like this what do you think will happen to you? I supposed you will have a serious health problem and the doctor or somebody else will tell you that you need to become more active or healthier, what that really means is implementing more discipline into your life.
Developing Self Discipline quote7
Come on even the government tells you that to achieve a certain good outcome you need to implement more discipline into your life, you need to eat less junk, exercise more, stop sitting so long on the couch and so on, those are all little improvements that you apply into your life, and so you become more self disciplined.

Hey, how many overweight people are there? Many of them! Don't you reckon they lack self control? (self discipline) at least majority of them do. Some of them may have became overweight because of some phycological or physiological issue.

So see that if you lack self discipline you will end up suffering somehow, soon or later in life. Maybe you can't control yourself when it comes to spending money, or maybe with alcohol or maybe with food. Everybody needs some self-discipline just so they can live more happily!

How can you implement change to your life?

I personally started off with something little but most importantly I first analysed and understood what wasn't beneficial to me. I used to spent a lot of time in front of a screen or watching television or playing games, I also used to spend time on ebay looking for junk to buy.

Developing Self Discipline quote8Initially I understood that my spending habit had to disappear, it was making me poorer each time I would buy something. I remember getting some sort of excitement, pleasure, from buying things online and I have also realised how bad buying things online is, its like if you don't feel that you have spent money, if instead you go to a supermarket and spend that same amount you feel like you have spent a lot of money.

To get rid of that habit I started getting away from the computer and so from ebay and slowly I just stopped buying junk. I now don't buy pretty much anything and invest all the money that I save up. I am now in my the best financial situation ever.

Well after Ebay I jumped into spending hours in front of the television, another bad habit, but at least kept me away from Ebay as I was being entertaining in another way.

See how I switched between one thing to the other? It's hard to sit still for me, I feel an urge to always keep myself busy or entertained. But why did I entertained myself with things that didn't bring me any good? Why did I go back into actions or activities that would give me that little pleasure, which controlled my whole body and mind?

At this stage I understood that the only true solution to overcome my life issues was by developing self discipline. Simply getting away from something that controls you, or entertains you, won't solve the bigger issue, within yourself, you will end up forming another bad habit. Just like an addict that gets away from alcohol for then becoming a prisoner of another substance, or drug, making him believe that he got away from alcohol but soon realising that he is trapped, again, into another little pleasure.

My final words in this post are simply to control and analyse everything you do, ask yourself why do you do it? Will you gain something positive from it? Have you became a slave of a particular action or substance? Be honest with yourself as you're the only one that knows the real answer.

Have a great day my friends and I hope you have enjoyed my post and the importance of developing self discipline.

Adrian Socha.

Developing Self Discipline everyday to reach happiness and anything you desire.

Today I would like to talk about how important it is to stick to a certain plan, to a certain habit to not go back, or fall, into the bad habit that we're trying to escape from this can be achieve by developing self discipline.

Are you maybe trying to live in a healthier way? Or maybe trying to be happier of even trying to be more productive, exercise more, or become more disciplined in general? Or are you just going through a bad time in your life? Read on and hopefully you will find inspiration and comfort.

As I said in my previous post the beginning is the hardest part but if the desire its real, if its a genuine internal desire than you will keep going, you will reach what you want. You simply have to understand that the biggest step, the biggest issue is simple yourself. If you wear red tinted glasses everything you see appears a bit red and so think of this as the perception that you have of the world, when you're happy and content you see good around you, you focus on that, when instead your thoughts and mind are covered in "red"then you will perceive everything in red, you will focus on the bad you will pretty much see the bad aspects of everything while if you're happy within everything appears better.

Now adjust what I am writing to your situation, I am writing to help as many people as I can and majority of issues in your life can be overcome by simply changing your view, your mentality.

Developing Self Discipline quote10What goes on in your head is the most important thing, you need to truly believe that you will get there, no matter what or that anything can be overcome or improved, no matter what. Very easy to say when things are nice and all is well but soon or later you will be tested.

You will be slapped across the face a couple of times and if you keep going then it means that you truly want it, that you truly desire it. Going through a rough period its good, see this in a positive way, you will be pushed to achieve more to force your mind to come up with a great idea or to improve yourself somehow, it depends on what you're working at. If you have a certain issue that keeps arising in your life it means that its something that you need to be work on, not run away from, as it will always chase you.

Change and improvement are hard to achieve, hard to go through but so worth doing because they will pay off.

How easy is it to go back to your old habits, to just jump back into your bad habit in no time at all. I think of it like climbing a mountain or a wall, a bit like rock climbing, how hard is it to climb that wall and how easy is it to fall? It takes seconds to fall. Just like trying to improve your life, it takes time to get there, just like climbing, and it takes no time to fall. Patience and perseverance are key ingredients at this stage, or maybe should I say at any stage of your life? I know for sure that by developing self discipline anything is achievable.

You must train your mind. Your mind, attitude and thoughts are the most important part to success, to achieve what ever you desire or to overcome anything in life. You need to start having positive talks with yourself, you need to always be nice towards yourself but at the same time push yourself, not give up for any reason, not accept failure, you need to achieve what you want no matter what.

Developing Self Discipline quote11You will be slapped across the face but that is part of the journey to success, this is life, you must be ready and prepared to go through anything. You must acknowledge that failure is part of success, through failure you will achieve what you truly desire, but you can't quit until you reach it, that is the failure that you need to stay away from. True failure is giving up, is running away from certain feelings, even if you do a little each day don't give up, never give up or you will never achieve anything in life.

I am sure that sometimes you feel like you certainly will get there, you will surely succeed but do you feel like that even when things go wrong? Not many really do. When things go wrong you must be strong, you must accept and acknowledge that every sometimes you will have a bad day, that bad things unfortunately happen, when you acknowledge this you will then be able to recover, to stand back up, again, and keep going, keep moving forward.

You must then be grateful for the bad because it has helped you, it has made you a stronger person capable of overcoming shit, overcoming what ever will go wrong and making success taste even better. I hope my post has helped you somehow.
