Children and Self-Discipline.

Teaching children about the benefits of developing self discipline will not only improve their ability to be patient and make good choices, but it will set the foundation for a life of tolerance, composure, and fortitude. Self-discipline is not easily acquired, and even adults are still perfecting and expanding their abilities to practice selflessness and humility.

Children who are frequently exposed to the idea of self-control are more likely to incorporate the same practices the more often they encounter a difficult decision or temptation. Children also learn by observing and absorbing the actions they see from the ones they love most. Parents have a responsibility to be a sound example to their children, not only through words, but actions as well.
Although children may not fully understand the entirety benefit of developing self-discipline while they are young, they will certainly start to experience and understand the importance as they are given the freedom to make their own choices.

The concept will further sink in as they must involuntarily experience the consequences of their actions.

An early exposure to this trait will expand to promote empathy, awareness, and perseverance.  Developing self-discipline will help children avoid the unwanted outcomes that tend to follow poor decisions, and they will learn the importance of a strong work ethic. Self-discipline may even help children eventually begin to answer some of their endless arsenal of ‘why’ questions. If anything, children will begin to establish an ability of practicing patience, thinking before doing, and the implementing the general idea of selflessness.

Developing Self discipline in easy little steps.

I have a small list of tips you can use for developing self discipline, don't judge those little steps before you actually try them out. If you realise of the importance of everyday little tasks you will soon become very disciplined. By developing self discipline in your everyday life you will be developing self discipline in your whole life, at work, in your relationship and in any other area of your life.
Try to understand the message in each of those tips and apply it to your circumstances.

Here are my tips for developing self discipline.
  • Ask less and do more yourself. Apply this under any circumstance. Are you looking for a product in a supermarket? Instead of asking for help go and find it yourself, if after many attempts you still can't find what you're looking for then go and ask for help, instead of asking somebody to show you the product as soon as you walk in store.
  • Develop self discipline by simply parking further away from where you need to go and use that extra distance to go for a walk, a little step like this one will make a big change in your life!
  • Wake up 30 minutes earlier than what you're used to and use that time in a productive manner, maybe read a book or newspaper, maybe just do some push ups or maybe go for a walk.
  • Stop complaining! Complaining gives you a tiny relief, a tiny good feeling which in the long run makes you an addict. You become addicted to complaining because it makes you feel good but at the same time it makes your life worse. Quit complaining, try simply to avoid it for a whole day and you will realise of how different your day will be, you will also realise of hard it may be to stop complaining. If you're a big complainer people around you will view you differently. Usually the big complainers have a life fulfilled with failures and other imperfections, when you stop complaining you will start focusing on yourself and realise of how many imperfections you have to fix within yourself. Why waste time looking at somebody else's mistake if you have plenty of issues within your life? Instead use that time to focus on your life and to solve some of your issues! Have heard of this quote: "Small people talk about people, average people talk about things, great people talk about ideas"
  • Spend less time in front of the television and do something more productive, read about something new or finish the book that you've started reading ages ago.
  • Stop coming up with great excuses. The biggest excuse I hear from people is that they don't have enough time. Well let me tell you that if you spend time watching television, playing games, on Facebook or any other similar social networks than you have plenty of time, you simply have no desire to do sometime more productive. If you really want to get something done you will find a way, if you don't want to do something you will find an excuse.
If these tips for developing self discipline may seem silly to you than you underestimate the power of those little tasks, I can guarantee you that if you respect those little tasks each day you will be automatically developing self discipline and each day you will become more disciplined.
If you wake up 30 minutes earlier each morning to accomplish something productive and your whole day will be different, you will feel better about yourself as you have already accomplished something. This little tiny step will soon transform into something more beneficial to you just like all the other tips I have given you will soon evolve into something bigger. Developing self discipline will take time but the benefits are priceless.
The more you sit on your bum, doing nothing, the lazier you become, you will exercise less, you will complain more and your life will soon turn into shit. The more you do the more desire and energies you will have to do even more, you will also be happier and your life will also be better.

Developing Will Power and Self Discipline.

Most people admire and respect strong individuals, who have won great success by manifesting will power and self discipline. They admire people, who with sheer will power, self discipline and ambition, have improved their life, learned new skills, overcame difficulties and hardships, reduced their weight, rose high in their chosen field or advanced on the spiritual path.
The truth is that everyone can reach high levels of will power and self-discipline through a practical method of training. These inner power are not reserved for a few special people.
Will power and self discipline are two of the most important and useful inner powers in everyone's life, and have always been considered as essential tools for success in all areas of life. They can be learned and developed like any other skill, yet, in spite of this, only few take any steps to develop and strengthen them in a systematic way.
What is will power?
It is the inner strength to make a decision, take action, and handle and execute any aim or task until it is accomplished, regardless of inner and outer resistance, discomfort or difficulties.
It bestows the ability to overcomes laziness, temptations and negative habits, and to carry out actions, even if they require effort, are unpleasant and tedious or are contrary to one's habits.
What is self discipline?
It is the rejection of instant gratification in favor of something better. It is the giving up of instant pleasure and satisfaction for a higher and better goal.
It manifests as the ability to stick to actions, thoughts and behavior, which lead to improvement and success. Self-discipline is self-control, and it manifests in spiritual, mental, emotional and physical discipline.
Developing Self Discipline quote3The purpose of self-discipline is not living a limiting or a restrictive lifestyle. It does not mean being narrow minded or living like a fakir. It is one of the pillars of success and power. It bestows the inner strength to focus all your energy on your goal, and persevere until it is accomplished.
Both of these abilities are required for daily actions and decisions, and also for making major decisions and attaining major success. They are required for doing a good job, for studying, building a business, losing weight, bodybuilding and physical exercises, maintaining good relationships, changing habits, self improvement, meditation, spiritual growth, keeping and carrying out promises and for almost everything else.
One of the most simple and effective methods to develop will power and self-discipline is by refusing to satisfy unimportant and unnecessary desires. Everyone is constantly confronted and tempted by an endless stream of desires and temptations, many of which are not really important or desirable. By learning to refuse to satisfy every one of them, you get stronger.
Refusing and rejecting useless, harmful or unnecessary desires and actions, and intentionally acting contrary to your habits, sharpen and strengthen your inner strength. By constant practice your inner power grows, just like exercising your muscles at a gym increases your physical strength. In both cases, when you need inner power or physical strength, they are available at your disposal.
Here are a few exercises:
- Don't read the newspaper for a day or two.
- Drink water when thirsty, in spite of your desire to have a soft drink.
- Walk up and down the stairs, instead of taking the lift.
- Get down from the bus one station before or after your destination, and walk the rest of the way.
- For one week, go to sleep one hour earlier than usual.
- If you like ice cream, don't have any, for a day or two.
These are only a few examples of the many exercises that can be conducted in order to develop will power and self-discipline. You might think that practicing these exercises is being tough on yourself, but they add much to the storehouse of your inner strength. By following a systematic method of training you can reach far, have more control over yourself and your life, attain your goals, improve your life, and gain satisfaction and peace of mind.
Show and prove to yourself that you are strong and in control, and practice the above exercises for a little while, before passing any judgement.

How is Self-Discipline Interconnected with Other Character Traits?

It is a proven fact that some individuals tend to be bigger risk takers than others. Some people do not seem to have the ability to predict consequences, and even when they do, it’s challenging to foresee the severity or intensity of negative implications.

Developing Self Discipline quote4

So how much of our ability to practice self-discipline and control is determined by our biological anatomy? Is self-discipline just as easy of a choice for some, as it is for all? Is lacking in self-control a physical inability, or more of a personal deficit that we can actively manage? Research scientists have been asking similar questions on a myriad of personality traits.

If we’ve accepted the various connotations concerning the deviation of right verses left brain when it comes to traits like artistic or mechanically inclined, is there are particular region in the brain that controls the ability to practice self-discipline?

Some research has suggested that will power and self-disciplined focus during a challenging task may be directly correlated to carbohydrate digestion and blood glucose levels. More complex studies that actually utilize the assistance of an MRI machine have isolated the ventral medial prefrontal cortex when patients were faced with a tempting decision. This same region of the brain is involved in the mental processes that study participants used when making a risky financial decision during a simulation similar to video gambling.

Developing Self Discipline quote5Conclusive evidence further supports that patients with a medical diagnosis of a behavioral disorder, such as attention deficit disorder or hyperactivity, may actually lack some of the imperative neuronal connections that are vital for predicting outcomes and understanding consequential results. These doctors have discovered an anatomical connection to these decision making processes. Is it possible for all of us to have a variable level of connectivity making it more or less feasible to develop self-discipline?

The dorsolateral prefrontal cortex may be the primary region that executes responsible decision making.

So what does that mean? It’s really hard to say.
Not enough scientific research has been conducted to pinpoint a particular pathway that is responsible for the blanket term of self-discipline. Even if medical researchers are able to locate an anatomical deficit that explains how and why some people have a harder time executing self-discipline, it doesn’t negate the physical ability for our brains to grow, develop, and acquire new abilities.

If we can perform physical therapy to regain the ability to walk, what is preventing our brains from gaining or further perfecting our ability to efficiently practice self-discipline?

Developing Self Discipline will simply change your entire life, believe it or not.

Pornography will destroy you, your child and your relationship!

Is pornography destroying you, your child and society? Is pornography increasing the likely hood of rape? Here is what I have found.

The latest research shows heavy users of violent pornography are:
Six times more likely to rape
83 percent of rapists and 67 percent of child molesters consume hard-core pornography at high rates.
A man using porn nearly doubles the odds he'll sexually assault his partner.

  • 68% involved one party meeting a new love interest over the Internet
  • 56% involved “one party having an obsessive interest in pornographic websites”
  • 47% involved “spending excessive time on the computer”
  • 33% involved spending excessive time in chat rooms (a commonly sexualized forum)
I understand that maybe to you it may not sound like a big issue, you wouldn’t rape anybody, or you may believe that watching porn isn’t an issue.

Well the best way to find out is to actually go through it and see, in the end, where this addiction, or habit, will take you.

There will be people telling you that pornography is wrong, like I am doing, and there will be people telling you that pornography is right. Whom will you listen to?

I believe you should consider both views, analyze both aspects and then make up your mind, don’t take anything for granted! Open your eyes and see it yourself.

The American Academy of Matrimonial Lawyers has said that Among the marriages that ended in 2002;

The figures say it loud and clear what pornography can do to you and your family.
Try to be honest to yourself and think about your life, is this what you want to keep doing?

Do you find yourself craving porn? Do you find yourself always wanting sex and always thinking about it? Don’t you think it is maybe controlling you a bit too much?
A bit like alcohol or drugs at first you may enjoy it, you don’t see a problem with it, at first, but years down the track you’re in a quite bad situation, alone, sick and totally in control of this substance or behavior.

Maybe porn isn’t making it very clear to you that you’re addicted to it, that you need it in order to satisfy a craving that you have and like other craving it grows bigger and bigger, making it harder and harder to stop.

Do you find your partner less attractive? Do you fantasies more about sleeping with other people? Would you rather sit in front a computer and masturbate instead of having sex with your partner?

If you answered yes to those 3 questions don’t you think that maybe something is going on? It’s either the relationship or you.
Maybe you’re not happy with the relationship or something else has changed, in both cases you need to wake up and act. Either quit porn or quit the relationship!

Maybe pornography is brain washing you and making you believe that you should do and say things in a certain way, it’s making you believe that your partner should also look or do things exactly like on those videos or movies which you spend hours watching. Look at this other statistics I have found.

A 2012 survey of porn actresses demonstrated 79% of porn stars have used marijuana, 50% have used ecstasy, 44% have used cocaine, and 39% have used hallucinogens.

People who generally participate in the production of porn are usually drug addicts, young people that have been sexually abused or have been expose to violence or others traumas. Some of course are normal people without any bad past experience but the majority has had a bad childhood or bad experiences in life.

Why am I saying this? Because many people view those porn stars as idols, examples to follow, it’s a bit like following the footsteps of an addict. I realized I sound a bit mean or cruel towards some people but I simply want to get a message across, I don’t mean to offend anybody.

At 8 years of age your kid may be looking at porn, probably before you have even spoken about that topic to your child, 8 years of age is the average age at which kids view porn for the first time.

Think about this for a second. Doesn't your kid copy what you do or what her sister or brother does? Don't you think that the exposure to that hard-core porn will make the kid think that he should act like that?

About 3 weeks ago a 12 year old boy raped his sister, 7 year old, after watching hard core porn. I am not making this up, it was on the news in England and you can still find that article on the BBC website.

You need to first learn yourself to be vigilant, and then teach it to your children that if it's on a screen it doesn't mean it's right!

Majority of people believe and repeat what they see on those screens without thinking too much about it, they just accept it as a truth, as something absolutely correct and right.

I hope I have helped you somehow, feel free to visit my website or blog for more free content.

One last word. Make sure you question everything you see and hear, see the real meaning behind everything.

Thank you.

How Developing Self-Discipline Pays Off in the Work Place?

In order to succeed in any job or career, self-discipline is an imperative trait to possess. Even if you have successfully climbed the corporate ladder and have few, if any, overseers of your performance, you will be more productive, more efficient, and more profitable by developing self-discipline and control over your actions.

Whether your actions have an immediate and direct effect on you, personally, or not, your job related choices have far reaching implications. From the fast food industry all the way up to a multi-million dollar financial corporation, if you are employed by someone else, your job duties have been established for a reason. Most likely, someone before you figured out what worked, and what didn’t, and every step of your requirements serve a valuable purpose.

When you do not practice self-discipline at work, you leave unfinished business for someone else to complete, finalize, or repair. Depending on your line of work, your choice to succumb to distracting temptations and avoid responsibility are not only a waste of your boss’s delegated funds, but someone else’s time must be employed to make up for your slack. In other words, multiple people are inconvenienced by your lack of self-discipline to efficiently perform.

When you practice self-discipline, your focus and attention are certainly noticed by your overseers. You are able to make better use of your time, provide higher quality work that contains fewer errors, and simply finalize more, in terms of volume. How exactly does this pay off?

Some companies offer performance incentives for exceptional productivity. Others simply consider your level of performance when it comes time for promotional raises.

But the true indication of whether you fully grasp the concept of self-discipline is when you choose to practice this trait without financial compensation or incentives.

Obviously, rewards are certainly motivating, however, the most genuine level of self-discipline comes from the desire to do what’s right, all the time, without being given a gold star or public recognition.
